New Need Some Help

Postby OhanaIce » Thu Dec 29, 2011 6:00 am

Aloha! My sister and I have recently move to San Diego from the North Shore of Oahu and are trying to convert and old milk truck we inherited into a Hawaiian Shave Ice truck and could really use some help to know what all we need in the truck and where to begin? What are the permit requirements? Any help is greatly appriciated, Mahalo!

Aloha! Congratulation on your new venture, its always exciting meeting people who are enthusiastic in starting their own business. A truck would be considered an MFF, mobile food facility and I found a link here for the requirements needed in San Diego. How much progress have you made so far?

OhanaIce...we built our own truck(with A LOT of help from our friends). We are not in San Diego County, but if you have any specific questions or if I can be of any help, feel free to contact me (localkine@comcast.net). I suggest reviewing the link ShaveIceLove sent you. Read EVERYTHING you can find and then read it again. Lol. Our HD was a great resource. They happily answered any questions I had and even offered suggestions and referrals to additional resources. Passing HUD was a lot easier than I anticipated. As with any building project, it took a lot longer and cost a lot more, even with doing a lot of work ourselves. BUT still much cheaper than the professional cart builders. Good luck!
