Fujimarca V1 or V2?

Postby ShaveIce² » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:44 am

A year or two back, we introduced the Fujimarca V2 into the market. Alot of customers asked, what is the v2 and what is the difference between the v1 and v2? And which machine should they go for? Here is a write up of the difference between the two machines and what we would tell our customers as to which shaver to get.

The Fujimarca V1 and V2 look pretty much exactly alike aside from the color difference. They share the same parts, and the only difference is the motor pulley. The Fujimarca V2 has a different motor pulley which helps it rotate at a faster rpm.

Accordingly, the v2 shaves roughly 30% faster than the v1 which makes the machine a bit harder to control as opposed the v1. Due to the speed of the machine, it is important to remember that you would be required to be careful when loading the ice. If the ice is loaded incorrectly on the machine, the chance of the ice flying out is much greater.

The V2 is recommended for store operators that have had prior experience in handling Fujimarca shave ice machines, and usually is not recommended for new stores or owners. New operators have found that the V2 is hard to control thus resulting in alot of wasted ice during shaving.

So to sum things up, if you are a new store owner, use the Fujimarca v1. If you plan to upgrade or already have a existing v1, the v2 will be a good addition to your business.

Thanks. I am a brand new owner and was about to purchase V2 but I think I will start out with V1 and hopefully move up to V2.

Excellent advice. All the key points were covered in the posting. I've had the V1 machine for about 6 years. I just got a V2 machine and love it. If I get a third one, it will certainly be a V2 machine.

I bought a Fujimarca V1 about a year ago and have had no problems making quality shave ice but my business has grown a lot and I thought I should purchase an additional machine to get the line moving faster and thought the V2 would be a nice upgrade. The person I bought the first machine from though advised against getting the V2 saying it is more sensitive and that if the ice wasn't perfect or the person using it was at all careless in perfectly centering the ice, it would have a lot more problems than the V1. Since I have a few people that work for me using the machine, I decided to take the distributor's advice and purchased another V1 last week. The first day I used it, the ice came out heavy, dense and gritty. I called the distributor and he felt it was a defective plate and changed the plate and made other adjustments. The ice quality improved and everything seemed ok but after using it two more busy days I was very frustrated. After making about 20 shave ices in a row, the ice keeps jamming up and has to be cleared from the blade even though I am tempering the ice properly. Also, the knob seems to need constant adjustment for each shave ice. I like to make it as fine as possible and set it on the finest setting but have to constantly turn the knob to the left to get anything to come out. I again called the distributor who offered to give me my money back which I accepted. I still need an additional machine and am so happy with my first machine so think I want to get a fujimarca but am concerned that the machine has been changed by the company and that it is no longer a good machine. The plate is stainless steel instead of brass and am wondering if this has anything to do with the ice jamming up due to the temperature of the different metals. If so, can a brass plate be purchased in place of the stainless one. Has anyone else experienced these problems with the newer machines or does anyone have any info. on this. It is a very busy time for us right now and I want to get another machine asap.

We have both the V1 and V2 and we are having the same problem with the V2... jamming at the blade and the ice is perfectly tempered....I have tried switching the ice over to the V1 to compare and it works flawlessley... I think the stainless plate might be contributing...I have been very frustrated with the V2 due to the jamming and the time it takes when you have a huge line to un-jam......... unless we are running it continuoulsy with no breaks/stops whatsoever the jamming is very often...UGH..

I do however love the speed in which it shaves when it is not jammed...

Brass plates are less tempermental. Brass plates will tend to melt the ice much quicker than the stainless. If you plan to run you machine extra fine I would stick with the brass. The only problem with brass is the discoloration and water stains. Stainless looks good but brass is better.

Good luck!

So is there any new info on the V2 ice jamming problem? I am going to be purchasing a V2 and would like to know how to work around this potential problem. Thanks.

The ice jamming problem has been fixed by reverting the new stainless steel shaving plates into the old brass ones. All of the new machines now come with the standard brass plates unless requested otherwise by the customer.
