Splitting 12# block of ice for Fujimarca

Postby Breezy625 » Sat May 22, 2010 8:45 pm

Hi everyone,
I am going to be using my Sno Block ice maker this year to make my ice. I am purchasing a Fujimarca ice shaver (sold my Southern Snow). My question is this: Can I split my 12# block of ice down the center with one of the 6 prong pics and it fit in the Fuji?
Thanks!

We cut our 8# block ice into 4 parts with a hand saw and they come out to be a good size for Fujimarca.

8 lb block. #= pound.

Quick question...i have a Swan si100 block machine and i am currently starting to sell shaved ice out of my pizzeria.....i have been freezing my own blocks in 6" x4" deep containers and it is a pain.

Do ice companies sell ice out there that fit my machine.
One ice company told me NO WAY JOSE ??

Or is there an easy way i can get the 12# blocks down to fit my machine??

i am brand new to this forum and any help would be great.

thanks

Yes I do understand where you are coming fom Salvatore82. Have you been using an ice pick/ saw, etc to try and cut the ice to the shape you want it to be? The reason the ice company gave you the "NO WAY JOSE" , I would usually say its because they are not making a good profit out of you that would benefit that company for them to go that far and create a mold that would make block ices that fits your machine in 100s or 200s batches.

Our company does make block ices in 12lbs in at 5x5x13 inches. We usually recommend them cutting it into three pieces. People have no troubles in using them , especially on Fujimarca 709se machines. I use them a lot for my machines.

As of right now i am just freezing them in pales. I am looking into buying the 10lb blocks and splitting them in half for my SWAN si100. Is it a pain to divide these into two (down the middle)?

Yeah maybe in the future after i gain a relationship with the ice vendor they will make them for me but i am just now starting out. Freezing ice is much cheaper but is a pain. I would love to be able to split the blocks if it is not too much of a hassle for my high school girls lol

Oh okay, and no it's not difficult to split it in half using an ice pick. Try scoring it all around to make it a perfect cut as much as possible so you dont' end up wasting ice.

We cut ours into 4 pieces by scoring block with a hand saw and then busting with a hammer and ice pick, then we used an electric chain saw to cut blocks. Then this year after learning of a multicompany takeover (homecity) that they had done away with solid blocks of ice and went with compressed. Compressed blocks do not work well in ice shavers. We purchaced a freezer from delta ice in la that does a good job freezing round blocks ready to go into your machine.
