Hatsuyuki HC8EDC (12 volt) turning the wrong way

I bought a used Hatsuyuki HC8EDC (12 volt) and when I hook it up to a 12 volt source (Blk to negative and Red to positive) it spins the ice the wrong way and won't shave. If I connect the red to neg and the Blk to positive it shaves fine from the on off switch. Could it be wired up wrong inside? What should I look for?
